A 3 Section Landing Page

The purpose of this post is to explain more about a landing page.  A landing page to encourage visitors to take a particular action. These actions are usually to get the interest of potential customers towards possible future sales. As an example, a landing page can encourage visitors to download a file, enter a free trial or sign up for an online event.

Before we jump into the 3 section landing page, let’s first have a look at the basic elements of a basic website:

  1. A H1 headline. This headline is the most important heading in your website. It tells search engines what your website is about. Most ideally the headline should contain your keyword and should be an accurate description of your page.
  2. A H2 subheader. The purpose of the H2 heading is to divide the content into sub-sections. This contributes to the structure of your website. You need to have your keyword or a synonym thereof in some of your subheadings.
  3. A Hero Image/Video. This is the first image the viewer will see. One can imagine that this will be the first impression of your business, product, or service to your prospective client. Add your keyword to your image alt text.
  4. Body Copy. This is the place where you explain your product or service to the reader. It is important to have your keyword featured in the content.
  5. Testimonials. A few good testimonials give your product credit. It shows viewers that some people are happy with what you have to offer.
  6. Contact Form. A contact form comes in handy if telephone lines are busy. Depending on what info is needed a website owner can gather the necessary information they need to give feedback to a client.
  7. Call-to-Action. A CTA can be something like “Subscribe to Our Newsletter’, “Find Out More” or “Call Us Now”. Simply put is to prompt the viewer to some action.

Those, without your header and footer, are the most basic elements of a website. The basic elements for a header are:

  1. Business Logo. This is a symbol you use to brand your business, for clients to recognize you.
  2. Menu. The purpose of the menu is to navigate users through your website.
  3. Social Media Icons. The purpose of social media icons is to build a network online and help you to keep in touch with your clients.

What is the purpose of a footer? The footer, at the bottom of a page, contains:

  1. Copyright Notice. This indicates that your content is protected by copyright law and is not to be copied.
  2. Links to a Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions. These are legal documents explaining to the viewer the way your website collects data, handles it, and processes it. It is important to show confidentiality. In short, this is a legal notice that mentions that anyone e.g. accessing your website is subject to and agrees to your terms and conditions.
  3. A Sitemap. This is a file containing  and showing the relations of all your pages, images, videos, and other files on your website.
  4. Logo. As described in the header section above.
  5. Contact Details. Your business phone number, e-mail address, and business address where applicable.
  6. An E-mail sign-up form. It is always good to have an e-mail sign-up form where you can gather client contact info to send promotions on a regular basis. Keep in mind the legal aspects of this action.
  7. Social Media Icons. As discussed in the header section.
